I love beauty, and I love creating beautiful things! I grew up in Asia at a time when ready-made clothes were not available. My mother, a doctor, spent countless hours teaching us kids (yes, even my brother) how to knit our own sweaters, sew our own clothes, crochet and tat our own lace. She did not necessarily have these skills, but she had the instruction books and the patient teacher's heart to take us through them, step by step, and to encourage us in the learning process. She had the wisdom to untangle my messes and unpick my stitches back to where I had messed up. Then she would tell me to go outside and play and then come back to my project and continue on with it. For style ideas we only had old Montgomery Ward catalogs, and from them I designed my own clothes and created items to make our home more beautiful.
Goethe said, "A person should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day in order that worldly cares do not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul." I have had the privilege of living abroad and traveling much of the world, always trying to create a beautiful home for my family with what is available around me in terms of fabrics and fibers, locally crafted items and trimmings. This is what I want to share with you: my love of beauty and my love of the cultures around the world through my handcrafted pillow covers.
There came a day when my husband commented that our home could no longer contain everything I was making, and that is how my Etsy shop was born! A quote I discovered in a magazine explains why I have a pillow shop. Unfortunately, when I clipped the quote, I forgot to include either the author or the magazine, but I am grateful to the person who penned my thoughts so well:
(...in your home) "What else is worth splurging on?"
"Throw pillows. They instantly finish the look of the room. The guys...always say, 'Why do we need pillows?' But having a room without pillows is like going to a party without your shoes on. Shoes make the outfit, right? Every chair, not just every sofa, must have pillows."
